Our Story
2016
Dan & Syd at Belmont
Dan & Syd at Belmont
Dan and Sydney begin their journey at Belmont University. Little did they know that their individual decisions to go there, although a difficult decision for both, would lead them to finding each other.
Friendship Grows
2023
Friendship Grows
Dan and Sydney meet each other through mutual friends early on in College. Sydney even was blessed (or cursed) with multiple Christmas cards throughout the years. Between 2016 and 2023, their friendship continues to grow. Sydney and Dan begin to start to crush on one another, despite both thinking the other didn't like them. That was until one magical day.
2023
First Unofficial Date
First Unofficial Date
Sydney made the first move and asked Dan to go for a run on the greenway that his work and her apartment shared. Somehow, it didn't click for Dan still that Sydney was also interested in him until this unofficial date. After agreeing to run and telling Dan to get most of his run done beforehand, Sydney ended up only wanting to walk. Therefore, Dan was a sweaty mess and Sydney looked beautiful on this walk. Despite that, it was here that Dan and Sydney hit it off and it clicked that they were both interested in each other. After hanging out one more time with Dan's friends who were in town, Dan asked Sydney out on an 'official' date.
First Date
2023
First Date
On August 10th, 2023, Sydney and Dan have their first date! The date consisted of dinner at Red Headed Stranger (highly recommend) and going to see the Barbie movie. Believe it or not, it was Dan's idea. We had a blast and Dan got a new perspective on being a girly pop. It was clear there was chemistry between the two and we had a blast together. Getting to build off of our existing friendship and grow together was and is so much fun!

Officially Dating
Officially Dating
On September 24th, 2023, Sydney and Dan officially began dating! Depending on who you ask between us, either August 10th or September 24th are the anniversary of 'dating'. Being that Dan is creating this website, he's going to take the liberty to say here that it was official August 10th, however to appease the masses I will put officially dating as this title. Regardless, September 24th was the day at which we officially became boyfriend/girlfriend (awwww). So begins (again, depending on who you ask) our love story!

Dating
As the year went on and rolled into 2024, Syd and Dan, also known as SyDan by some, began to fall deeper for one another. It was clear that every challenge that our lives threw at us, we were there for each other and cared deeply for one another. It was busy times for Sydney with starting law school at Belmont University (did I mention she's also going to be an amazing lawyer? How lucky am I?) and busy at work for Dan (not as cool as law school) and yet we were able to fit so perfectly into each others lives. It was around this time that the topic of marriage began to be discussed. Although, it wasn't really discussed as both of us knew without a doubt that's what we wanted! We went ring shopping together and picked out the perfect ring for Sydney! Then it was a wait and plan for the big day (not as big as wedding but still big).

Proposal
Proposal
December 14th, 2024 Dan proposed to Sydney. It was months of preparation, including a full rocking bench that was built for the occasion. Sydney would always playfully joke that Dan couldn't build a rocking chair, after he mentioned that they are difficult to build. So, Dan built her a rocking bench instead. The proposal took place at Old Hickory lake near Dan's house. Our mutual friend Sarah helped out tremendously (shoutout Sarah) and setup the bench on the shore beforehand, along with hiding to take photos. The rouse Dan planned was to convince Sydney that we were taking a funny Christmas card photo, but that we should take the occasion to take a serious photo beforehand so that we were all dressed up. To be fair, we did end up taking a funny Christmas card photo too. To redirect Sydney, Dan did a big Christmas holiday celebration day the day before to make her think that the proposal would be then. It worked. We were running late to the lake and Sydney didn't suspect a thing, even when we first saw the bench. We walked toward the bench and then Dan gave Sydney the journal he'd been keeping to document the process of the propoal preparation. He got down on one knee (as you do when proposing, or at least that's what google said), fumbled through the words "I love you so much, will you marry me?" (I wrote down a whole speech but pretty much blacked out and couldn't think). She said yes! From there, we went back to Dan's house to let everyone know and celebrate. Sydney's parents (shoutout Dave and Mary), Syd's sister (shoutout Shersty), Dan's parents (shoutout Tim and Julie), Dan's brothers (shoutout Nick and Matt) all joined that night for a dinner downtown, followed by some dancing and hanging out at Robert's Western World. It was truly a great day!
Wedding Planning

Wedding Planning
It feels weird to leave out an entire year on this timeline, so wanted to include some snippets on wedding planning and general life as an engaged couple. It continues to be so much fun to get to spend so much time with the person we're meant to be with! Getting to support each other through work, life and planning is beautiful. While a lot of work, we've had and continue to have so much fun creating a great night for you all to enjoy with us!

Frequently Asked Questions

(Click Cards for Answers)

What should I wear?

Summer formal attire is requested. Light fabrics, flowy dresses, summer suits, etc. Women, please avoid white, beige, cream or like colors. Check out our Pinterest (linked on locations page) board for inspiration!

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive 15-30 minutes before the ceremony starts. This gives you time to find parking and get seated comfortably.

Is there parking available?

Yes! Our ceremony venue has free parking and Emerson Hall has free valet service. If going downtown afterwards, it may be best to Uber/Lfyt from the venue as parking downtown is limited.

Will there be food at the reception?

Absolutely! We'll have a full dinner reception with cocktail hour, followed by dessert and dancing. Dietary restrictions? Let us know when you RSVP!

Can I bring a plus one?

Plus ones are listed on your invitation. Unless the plus one is listed on your invite, plus ones are not allowed. If you have questions about your invitation or need to make changes, please reach out to us directly!

What's the weather like in May?

Nashville in late May is typically warm and pleasant, with temperatures in the 70s-80s.

How did you meet?

We met at Belmont University in 2017! Though we were friends for years, it wasn't until 2023 that we realized we were meant to be more than friends.

How long have you been together?

We've been officially dating since August 2023, but our friendship goes back to the college days. We're so grateful to have a friendship to build our relationship on!

Tell us about the proposal!

Dan proposed on December 14th, 2024 at Old Hickory Lake with a custom-built rocking bench! Sydney said yes!

What do you love to do together?

We love exploring going on walks, yapping, eating and making each other laugh. Any activity that facilitates any of these things is what we love to do!

Where will you live after the wedding?

We'll be staying in Old Hickory (Nashville)! Sydney has received a job offer after the BAR exam to work for a law firm in town and Dan has a steady job in town he loves! We're so excited to continue to live here!

Any fun facts about you two?

Our first date was seeing Barbie, first kiss was in the river/stream at McCabe, our favorite date was going on the General Jackson steamboat on the Cumberland River. Sydney got multiple Christmas cards from Dan in college, well before we were together, and somehow she still liked him.

Things to Do in Nashville

Nashville has so much to offer! Here are some of our favorite spots that we think you'll love during your visit.

Our Favorite Dining Spots

Red Headed Stranger

Where we had our first date! East Nashville spot with great tacos, crunchwrap (recommended), and even a solid burger!

Swett's

We promise it's the name of the restaraunt, although you may get the meat sweats from the amazing food served. Nashville classic meat and three spot with a great atmosphere. If you want to experience old Nashville (not the new yuppy Nashville) this is the place for you.

Benji's Bagels

The bagel spot in Nashville. There's a very good chance you'll see us there, as it's a staple. Any and all options are phenomenal, we promise you'll want to go back within the weekend.

Chuy's

Great mexican spot in Midtown Nashville. The creamy jalapeno dip is so good, Dave requested a fondue fountain at the wedding of it. While we sadly cannot provide that, go get yourself some while you're in town!

Our Favorite Activities

General Jackson Showboat

Our favorite date we've been on! It's a little pricey, but you can get tickets to go on a steamboat from Opry Mills all the way to downtown Nashville. You can even pay for dinner and a show, or just enjoy the ride and view of the Cumberland river! Makes you feel like John Hartford (not sure how many will get that reference but if you do, please let Dan know so he can be your best friend).

Hike Radnor Lake

A beautiful hiking trail around a lake, located just south of Nashville. Frequent walks/hikes that Dan and Sydney go on the weekends are here. Pairs very well with Benji's bagels. Walk off the cals or earn that bagel! No shame if you just want to eat a bagel, we get that completely.

Walk Shelby Bottoms Greenway

Staying in East Nashville? A beautiful greenway along the Cumberland river to walk. Has a full park, baseball and softball fields, and plenty of great restaruants around it in the neighborhoods nearby. If you have great weather, it's worth checking out!

Music City Indoor Pro Kart

Have older children and want a fun activity for them to do while visiting? While it's a little pricey, nothing is more exhilirating than go karting. Syd and Dan had a fun date here and it's been a go to spot for Dan's friends when they visit for years. Also has an arcade too, which Syd and Dan are very fond of.

Our Favorite Places

Belmont University

Where it all started for SydDan. Gorgeous campus located in the heart of Nashville, minutes from Music Row. Go visit the law school Syd has spent so many hours at, then drive down Music Row into downtown to see the history of the city. When driving down Music Row, please play "Down on Music Row" by Dolly Parton. Thank you.

Robert's Western World

Where we celebrated our engagement, and a constant place to go when going out together. Like country music but fed up with modern country and bad musicians? Welcome to hillbilly heaven. We recommend going between 6-10pm to Wednesday-Saturday to see one of the best guitar players you'll see. Get either a recession special or cheese curds if you're going to order food. Also, if you want an unconventional church service, Sunday mornings there are something special.

Old Hickory Boat Launch

Where Dan proposed to Syd and we spent early dates yapping away! If you have a car and want to get away from the city for a bit, we recommend going to take a lake day out in Old Hickory. Minutes from Dan's (soon to be our) house, there's a beach if you wanted to swim, or a lake to dip your feet in, or fish!

Roys Tavern

We like to play darts. If staying in East Nashville, this is close to you! Great pizza, burgers and appetizers on top of pool and darts. We found this place after our first tour of Emerson Hall and have loved it ever since!
